Digital marketing for clinics that fills every doctor's diary

Digital marketing for clinics is the planned use of your Google Business Profile, local search ads, your website, WhatsApp and your front desk to turn nearby patients into kept appointments. We plan it doctor by doctor and specialty by specialty, inside India's medical advertising rules, and we report on booked and attended visits, not clicks.

Clinic as a business

What digital marketing for clinics covers

A clinic with several doctors runs several diaries under one name. Marketing has to fill the quiet ones without crowding the busy ones, and it has to reach patients who live close enough to come back for follow-ups.

The short answer

For a clinic, digital marketing means one accurate Google presence for the clinic and its doctors, ads that run only for the specialties and hours that have room, a website that lets patients pick the right doctor, and a front desk and WhatsApp set-up that turns enquiries into kept appointments.

It sits under our wider digital marketing services, and it is one part of how we approach marketing for healthcare businesses as a whole.

  • Planned by specialty and session

The orthopaedic OPD's empty Tuesday morning gets help. The fully booked paediatric evening does not.

  • Built around your catchment

Ads and profiles focus on the area your patients can reach, which differs for a fever visit and a cataract consult.

  • Includes the front desk

Missed calls, slow WhatsApp replies and wrong-doctor bookings are tracked, because that is where many enquiries stop.

  • Inside medical rules

No cure claims, no testimonials, no before-and-after, no paid reviews. Every rule we follow is cited on this page.

Practising on your own? Our page on digital marketing for doctors fits a single-doctor practice better, and dental practices have their own page on marketing for dentists. This page is for clinics run as a business with several doctors, rooms or specialties.

Several doctors, one marketing budget?

We start by finding which diaries have room, then plan spend around them.

Our services

The digital marketing services we run for clinics

We run nine services for clinics with several doctors, and most clinics need only some of them. Each one is planned around the doctors and sessions that have room, and each one stays inside the medical advertising rules set out further down this page.

01

SEO

Helps nearby patients find the clinic, its doctors and each specialty on Google Search and Maps.

How we provide it

  • One clinic Google Business Profile with every service, hours and holiday hours, and doctor profiles only where Google's guidelines allow them.
  • A page for each specialty and a factual doctor directory, written around what patients search, such as "ENT clinic near me".
  • Clinic name, address, phone and timings kept the same on Google, Practo, Justdial and your website.

What you see in the report

Profile calls, direction requests and search visits to each specialty page, month on month.

02

Google Ads

Shows the clinic to people searching for a specialty or service nearby, only for the sessions that have room.

How we provide it

  • Campaigns split by specialty and session, with ad schedules that pause when a diary is full.
  • Areas set from your own patient pin codes: a tight radius for sick visits, a wider one for planned consults.
  • Search and area targeting only, because Google does not support remarketing or Customer Match for health.

What you see in the report

Spend, calls and booking requests, and the cost per booked visit for each specialty.

03

Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram)

Tells families in your catchment about the clinic in plain facts: a new specialty, a new doctor or changed OPD hours.

How we provide it

  • Audiences set by area and age group, never by health conditions or patient lists.
  • Ad text limited to services, facilities, timings and location, with no offers, testimonials or result claims.
  • Call and WhatsApp buttons on the ads, so the front desk can book the right doctor.

What you see in the report

Reach in your catchment, calls and chats started, and bookings traced back to each ad.

04

Social media management

Keeps the clinic's Instagram and Facebook pages current, so patients who check them see real timings, doctors and facilities.

How we provide it

  • A monthly post calendar: doctor timings, new services, holiday hours and general health awareness checked against NMC guidelines.
  • Replies to comments and messages that never confirm a person is a patient or discuss their treatment.
  • No patient photos, patient stories or children's faces in any post.

What you see in the report

Posts published, profile visits, and messages that became bookings.

05

Email marketing

Sends patients who opted in the information they need: appointment details, pre-visit instructions and clinic notices.

How we provide it

  • Lists built only from patients who ticked a clear consent box, with that consent recorded under the DPDP Act and an unsubscribe link in every email.
  • Booking confirmations, preparation notes before a procedure, new doctor timings and holiday hours.
  • No offers, discounts or health claims that push visits, in line with the NMC's October 2026 guidelines.

What you see in the report

Emails delivered, opens, unsubscribes and clicks through to booking pages.

06

WhatsApp marketing

Answers the messages patients already send, and sends reminders and follow-ups to patients who agreed to receive them.

How we provide it

  • WhatsApp Business API set-up with Meta-approved templates for confirmations, reminders and follow-up visits, sent only after an opt-in that names your clinic.
  • Click-to-WhatsApp ads and website buttons that open a chat, with quick replies for timings, fees and doctors.
  • Follow-up flows for physiotherapy courses, vaccination schedules and review visits, with no offers in them.

What you see in the report

Chats started, reminders delivered, confirmations and reschedules, and Meta's message charges.

07

Conversion rate optimisation (CRO)

Turns more of the patients who reach your website into booked appointments, before you pay for more clicks.

How we provide it

  • A landing page for each specialty with doctor timings, fees and a call or book button at the top on phones.
  • Short booking forms, speed checks on mobile data, and a booking flow that lets patients pick the doctor and the slot.
  • A/B tests on layout, button wording and form length, never on medical claims.

What you see in the report

Visit-to-booking rate for each page, where patients leave the form, and what each test changed.

08

Content

Gives patients clear, factual material about your doctors, services and facilities on every channel.

How we provide it

  • Service pages, doctor directory entries and posts written by our team and approved by your doctors before they go live.
  • Short videos and photos of the clinic, rooms and equipment, with no patient who could be identified.
  • Ad creatives and post designs, and no AI-generated promotional campaigns, which the NMC's 2026 guidelines do not allow.

What you see in the report

Pages and posts published, and which ones led to calls or bookings.

09

Reporting and tracking

Shows which channel brought each booked and attended visit, for each doctor and specialty.

How we provide it

  • GA4 and conversion tracking for calls, forms and WhatsApp clicks, with no patient names or health details sent to Google or Meta.
  • A lead source field in your clinic software or CRM, so the front desk records where each new patient came from.
  • A monthly report in plain language, with what we changed and what we plan next.

What you see in the report

Enquiries, booked and attended visits, and cost per booked visit, by doctor, specialty and channel.

By clinic type

Marketing plans by clinic type

A polyclinic, a physiotherapy centre, an eye or ENT clinic and a children's clinic book patients in different ways. Pick yours to see how the plan changes.

Multi-specialty clinics, polyclinics and day-care centres

Patients search
The specialty and the area, such as "gynaecologist near me" or "ortho clinic in Rohini"
Booking
Mix of calls, walk-ins and tokens at one reception
Watch for
One busy OPD taking every enquiry while others sit idle

The work starts with a list of sessions and specialties that have room. Ads, Google posts and website banners then point to those services, not the clinic name alone, while each doctor appears in the clinic's doctor directory with qualifications and timings. Day-care clinics with procedure slots add pre-visit instructions to the WhatsApp flow so fewer patients arrive unprepared.

If your clinic is growing into a hospital with beds and emergency care, our page on marketing for hospitals covers that step.

What we plan first

  • A doctor and session list with room to fill
  • Google Ads campaigns split by specialty
  • One clinic profile with every service listed
  • Call tracking per specialty line

Physiotherapy clinics and rehab centres

Patients search
The problem, such as "back pain physiotherapy" or "physio for knee after surgery"
Booking
A first assessment, then a course of sessions
Watch for
Patients who stop after two sessions without a reason given

For a physiotherapy clinic, the first visit is only the start. Session reminders and a simple "book your next session" link on WhatsApp matter as much as new patient ads. Referral relationships with orthopaedic surgeons nearby often send more patients than search, so we track both.

We cover this trade in more depth on our page on marketing for physiotherapy clinics.

What we plan first

  • Session reminder and rebooking flow
  • Search ads by condition, not by "physio" alone
  • Home visit service area, if you offer it
  • General posture and exercise awareness posts, checked against NMC rules

Eye clinics and ENT clinics

Patients search
A test or a symptom, such as "eye test near me", "cataract doctor" or "ear wax removal"
Booking
Quick test visits plus planned procedure consults
Watch for
Ad copy that promises sight or hearing results

Eye and ENT clinics run two diaries at once: fast test appointments and longer consults for surgery or hearing aids. We keep them in separate campaigns with separate budgets. Cataract, glaucoma and deafness are named conditions under Indian drug advertising law, so ad wording is checked against it before anything goes live.

Clinics with an optical counter can see our page on marketing for eye care and opticians.

What we plan first

  • Separate campaigns for tests and procedures
  • Service list on the profile for each test
  • Wording checked against the rules section below
  • Follow-up reminders for annual eye checks

Paediatric and child health clinics

Patients search
Parents type "child specialist near me" or "paediatrician open now", often late in the day
Booking
Same-day sick visits plus planned vaccination visits
Watch for
Wrong opening hours on Google, which send parents elsewhere

Parents choose on distance, hours and whether someone answers the phone. Accurate evening and Sunday hours, a clear "open now" status and a quick WhatsApp reply matter more than clever ads. Vaccination schedules make reminders useful to parents, as long as they agreed to receive them.

We keep children's photos and any patient who could be identified out of ads and posts. Under the NMC's 2026 advertising guidelines, consent does not make a patient testimonial acceptable.

What we plan first

  • Hours, holiday hours and doctor rota on Google
  • Vaccination reminder flow with parent consent
  • Small radius for sick-visit ads
  • Missed call follow-up in the evening rush
A typical week

Where a clinic's week loses patients

Most clinics we speak to do not lack enquiries. They lose them between the search and the consulting room. These are the six places we check first.

Monday, 10 am

The new specialty's empty morning

Patients ask for the doctor they already know. A newly added specialty can sit idle for weeks while the busiest OPD runs late.

What helps: the service on the profile, a factual directory entry on the website and a small ad budget for those sessions only.

Tuesday, 11:30 am

Booked, then not seen

A booked slot that stays empty costs the full fee and blocks a patient who would have come.

What helps: a reminder a day ahead with a one-tap way to change the time.

Wednesday, 6 pm

The walk-in rush

Evening walk-ins pile up while booked patients wait, and both groups leave unhappy.

What helps: pushing online booking for evening OPD and keeping walk-in hours clear on Google.

Thursday, 1 pm

Calls nobody picked up

Reception is busy with the patient in front of them. The caller rings the next clinic on the map.

What helps: a missed call list and a callback routine the same hour.

Friday, 4 pm

WhatsApp questions left until night

"Is the ENT doctor in today?" sits unread until the clinic closes.

What helps: quick replies for timings, fees and doctors on WhatsApp Business.

Saturday, closing

Follow-ups never booked

The doctor says "come back in two weeks". Nobody books it before the patient walks out.

What helps: booking the follow-up at the desk and a reminder before it falls due.

Seeing three or more of these at your clinic?

The fix is often at the front desk and on WhatsApp before it is in the ad budget.

Help Me Fill the Empty Slots
No-show cost calculator

What do no-shows cost your clinic?

Enter your own numbers. The calculator shows the consultation fees attached to booked slots that stay empty. It runs in your browser and sends nothing to us.

All doctors together.
Booked patients who did not come or cancel.
First-visit fee, averaged across doctors.
Working days, not calendar days.

What usually brings this number down

  • A WhatsApp confirmation and a reminder the day before, sent only to patients who opted in
  • A one-tap link to move the slot, so a cancellation frees it for another patient
  • Same-day call-backs on missed calls, so a patient who could not get through still books
Cut No-Shows at My Clinic

Your estimate

Kept slotsEmpty after bookingEach block is 5% of booked slots

Consultation fees lost per month₹1,40,400
Empty slots per day9
Empty slots per month234
Fees lost per day₹5,400
Fees lost per year₹16,84,800

Formula: booked slots per day × no-show rate × days open × average fee. The yearly figure is the monthly figure × 12.

For context, a 2018 review of 105 studies in the journal Health Policy (Dantas and others) put the average no-show rate at about 23%, with wide variation by country and specialty. Your own rate is the one to use.

These are estimates from your own inputs, not industry averages. The starting values are a made-up example. Fees for tests, procedures and follow-ups that a missed first visit would have led to are not counted.

Want fewer empty slots, not a bigger ad budget?

Reminders, easy rescheduling and a waitlist for slots that open up are usually set up before we spend more on ads.

Set Up My Reminder Flow
How patients reach you

From a search to the consulting room

A new patient usually passes through six steps before they sit down with a doctor. We set up and measure each one, because a strong ad cannot rescue a weak step later on.

  1. Search

A symptom, a specialty or "clinic near me" on Google or Maps.

  2. Profile

Hours, doctors, services and directions on your Google Business Profile.

  3. Contact

A call, a WhatsApp message or an online booking form.

  4. Front desk

Reception picks the right doctor and slot in your clinic software.

  5. Reminder

A WhatsApp or SMS reminder a day before, with a way to change the time.

  6. Visit and follow-up

The patient is seen, and the next visit is booked before they leave.

Reception phone handling

The clinic phone is often the busiest and least measured channel. We set up call tracking so you can see which calls came from ads and profiles, which were missed and how quickly they were returned.

  • A call script with doctor timings, fees and what to bring
  • A missed call list checked every hour during OPD
  • A rule for which doctor gets a new patient by default

WhatsApp reminders done properly

Appointment reminders sent through the WhatsApp Business Platform go out as approved message templates, and the patient has to agree to receive them first. We collect that consent at booking and record it.

  • Confirmation at booking, reminder a day before
  • Reply options to confirm or change the time
  • Health tips and offers kept out of reminder messages

Not sure which step loses most of your patients?

Call tracking and booking data usually show it within the first month of set-up.

Fix How Calls Reach My Front Desk
Google Business Profile

One clinic profile or a profile for every doctor?

Most multi-doctor clinics need one clinic profile, plus a profile for a doctor only where that doctor sees patients there in public hours and the clinic is happy for reviews to be split. Google's own guidelines set the limits.

Sick visitsPhysio courses, testsPlanned procedures

How far will your patients travel?

Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence. Distance is the part you cannot change, so the plan has to respect it. A parent with a feverish child picks the nearest open clinic. A patient planning cataract surgery may cross the city for the right surgeon.

So we set different areas for different services: a tight radius for sick visits and walk-ins, a wider one for physiotherapy courses and tests, and the widest only for planned procedures. Your own patient pin codes, pulled from your clinic software, set the rings, not a guess.

Reviews: where two sets of rules meet

Google allows a business to ask genuine customers for reviews, as long as nothing is offered in return and every customer is asked, not only the happy ones. The NMC's 2026 advertising guidelines go further for doctors and medical institutions: no fake, paid or manipulated reviews, and no requesting or sharing patient testimonials for promotion.

  • A neutral feedback link, the same for every patient, only if your adviser agrees
  • Replies that never confirm the person is a patient or name a treatment
  • Reviews never copied into ads, posts or the website

What we will not do

  • Offer discounts or gifts in return for reviews
  • Ask only the patients we think are happy
  • Write reviews, or ask staff and family to post them
  • Post patient stories, photos or results as advertising

Medical advertising rules

Medical advertising rules a clinic has to work within

Clinic marketing in India sits under professional rules for doctors, a drug advertising law, the advertising industry's own code and each platform's policy. These are the sources we work from. Confirm how they apply to your clinic with your legal adviser or your state medical council.

NMC advertising guidelines, 2026

On 6 October 2026 the NMC's Ethics and Medical Registration Board issued Guidelines on Ethical Advertising and Public Communication for doctors and for hospitals and medical institutions. As reported, they allow factual, verifiable information such as departments, facilities, contact details and fees, and bar testimonials, guaranteed cures, "100% success" claims and fake or paid reviews.

They also say agencies must not be paid in a way linked to bringing in individual patients, and that AI-generated promotional campaigns for commercial interest are not allowed.

Source: Medical Dialogues and The South First reports, 7 and 8 October 2026. Read the NMC text itself before launch.

NMC professional conduct rules

The NMC's 2023 professional conduct regulations were held in abeyance by a gazette notice dated 23 August 2023, so the Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002 apply.

Clause 6.1.1 treats soliciting patients, directly or indirectly, by a doctor, a group of doctors or an institution as unethical. Clause 7.12 limits what an institution may advertise.

Source: nmc.org.in e-gazette listing and the Code of Medical Ethics Regulations, 2002.

Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, 1954

The Act bars advertisements that refer to a drug or remedy for the diagnosis, cure or treatment of the diseases and conditions listed in its Schedule, and misleading claims about drugs.

We keep "cure" and treatment-result claims out of clinic ads, posts and landing pages.

Source: Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, sections 3 and 4 and the Schedule.

ASCI code

The Advertising Standards Council of India code asks for restraint in health claims. Its influencer guidelines add that people giving health advice must hold the relevant qualification and state it upfront.

Any creator content we plan carries a clear ad label and a named qualified professional.

Source: ascionline.in, the ASCI Code and Guidelines for Influencer Advertising in Digital Media, Addendum II.

Google Ads policy

Google treats health as a sensitive category for personalised ads, so remarketing lists and Customer Match are not supported for health targeting. Its healthcare policy also restricts some medicines and treatments by country.

We plan clinic campaigns on searches and areas, not on patient lists.

Source: Google Ads policy help, Personalised advertising (answer 143465) and Healthcare and medicines (answer 176031).

WhatsApp and patient data

The WhatsApp Business Platform needs a clear opt-in naming your clinic before you message a patient, and Meta has charged per delivered template message since 1 July 2025. The DPDP Rules, notified in November 2025, bring most consent and notice duties into force in May 2027.

Numbers collected for reminders are not reused for promotions.

Source: Meta developer documentation on opt-in and pricing; Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and DPDP Rules, 2025.

What this means for your marketing

No success rates, no "painless" or "guaranteed" claims, no before-and-after images, no patient testimonials, no offers that push unneeded visits and no promised patient numbers. Ads describe services, facilities, timings and location. This is general information, not legal advice: your clinic should confirm each rule with its legal adviser or professional body.

Scope

What else is included when we market your clinic

The nine services above cover the channels. These three pieces of clinic work sit alongside them in most plans.

Call tracking and desk scripts

Tracked numbers, a missed call routine and a short script for reception.

Google profile upkeep

Hours, doctors, services and photos on your Google Business Profile kept current, so patients see the right details before they call.

Rule check before launch

Ad copy, posts and pages checked against the rules above, with wording you approve.

Only need two or three services?

That is common. We recommend the parts that fit your clinic and say which ones can wait.

Choose What My Clinic Needs
How we work

How we work with clinics

Five steps, the same on every digital marketing project, described here in clinic terms.

  1. 1

    Discovery Call

We learn your business, your goals, your patients and how enquiries reach you today. No pitch, just the questions that matter.

Which doctors have room, how reception books, how many walk-ins you see.

  2. 2

    Marketing Review

We check your website, ads, Google Business Profile and social profiles for wasted spend and quick wins. Starting fresh? We study your market and competitors instead.

Duplicate profiles, wrong hours, ads running for full sessions.

  3. 3

    Strategy and Proposal

We recommend which channels to use, in what order and with what budget split, and we tell you honestly what will and will not work for your clinic.

Specialty by specialty, with the reminder flow costed in.

  4. 4

    Build and Launch

Website fixes, campaigns, profiles, content and conversion tracking, all set up properly before anything goes live.

Call tracking, WhatsApp templates and consent capture included.

  5. 5

    Refine and Report

We adjust campaigns and content every week, and report each month on enquiries, cost per lead and lead quality.

Lead quality here means booked and attended visits per doctor.

We do not overpromise. We understand first, recommend honestly, then run the channels that fit your business.

Proof

Proof, and what it does and does not show

We cannot share a clinic result yet, so we will not invent one. These two cases are from other trades. They show how we run local search and paid campaigns, which is the same work a clinic needs.

Paid search

A commercial kitchen equipment manufacturer. Google Search Ads on 100+ keywords across multiple cities, with strong results in every city.

Why it matters to a clinic: a large keyword set split by area and service is how a multi-specialty clinic's campaigns are built too.

Paid social and search

A jewellery brand that wanted reach and sales. Paid campaigns on Google and Meta grew website traffic tenfold within one year and brought a steady flow of orders.

Why it matters to a clinic: it shows search and social planned together over a year. A clinic's limits on claims are far stricter, and we plan for that.

Cost

What affects the cost of clinic marketing

We do not publish fees, because two clinics of the same size can need very different work. These are the things that move the quote.

  • Doctors and specialties

Each specialty needs its own campaign, pages and reporting line.

  • Number of branches

Each location needs its own profile, area settings and tracked number.

  • Your ad budget

Paid to Google or Meta directly, set by you, and separate from our fee. Our fee is for the scope of work, never per patient or per lead.

  • Reminder volume

WhatsApp messages are charged by Meta per message, so volume adds to running costs.

  • Website state

A site with no doctor pages or booking needs more build work first.

  • Clinic software

Linking reminders to your booking software takes set-up time that varies by system.

FAQs

Questions clinic owners ask

Should each doctor in our clinic have their own Google Business Profile?

Only if that doctor sees patients at the clinic in stated hours and patients search for them by name. Google's guidelines allow a practitioner profile in that case, alongside one clinic profile. The trade-off is that reviews split across profiles and a doctor who leaves may take theirs along. For most clinics we start with one strong clinic profile and add doctor profiles case by case.

Can a clinic ask patients for Google reviews?

Google allows it if every patient is asked the same way and nothing is offered in return. The NMC's October 2026 guidelines bar fake, paid or manipulated reviews and requesting patient testimonials for promotion, so check the approach with your adviser first. If you go ahead, keep it to one neutral feedback link for all patients, never reuse reviews in ads, and never confirm in a reply that the reviewer is a patient.

Can clinics in India run Google and Facebook ads?

Yes, within limits. Google and Meta allow ads for clinics and health services, with country rules for some medicines and treatments. The NMC's October 2026 guidelines allow factual, verifiable information and bar testimonials, guaranteed outcomes and unverifiable "best" claims, and the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act restricts cure claims. Ads that describe services, facilities, timings and location are the safe base. Confirm the details with your legal adviser before launch.

How do we reduce no-shows without annoying patients?

Send fewer, better messages: a confirmation when the visit is booked and one reminder the day before, both with a quick way to change the time. Patients who can reschedule in one tap are less likely to simply not turn up. Keep offers and health tips out of reminders, and send them only to patients who agreed to receive them.

Is a Practo or Justdial listing enough, or do we need our own website?

A directory listing helps patients who already use that app, but the profile, reviews and patient data stay on the platform. Your own website and Google profile are the channels you control and can track. Keep listings accurate where they bring bookings you can count, and judge any paid placement by the bookings it brings, not by views.

How much should a clinic spend on digital marketing?

It depends on the number of specialties, the area you cover and how much room the diaries have. Ad spend is paid to Google or Meta directly and you set it. Our fee depends on the scope of the work. A sensible start is a modest budget for the one or two specialties with the most empty slots, judged on cost per attended visit after a few months.

How long before marketing fills more appointment slots?

Fixes to the profile, hours and missed calls can show in the booking data within weeks. Ads start bringing enquiries once they go live, but the first one to two months are mostly about learning which specialties and areas book well. SEO and reviews build over several months. We do not promise a number of patients or a date.

We get a lot of walk-ins. Do we still need online booking?

Most busy clinics run both. Walk-ins suit sick visits and patients near the clinic, while bookings suit specialists, follow-ups and evening OPD. Online booking spreads patients across quieter sessions and gives you numbers to plan with. Show walk-in hours clearly on Google so walk-in patients still know when to come.
