For multi-speciality hospitals and nursing homes

Digital marketing for hospitals, planned department by department

Digital marketing for hospitals is the work of making each department easy to find, easy to trust and easy to reach: the cardiology page a patient lands on, the emergency number they call at night, the insurance list they check before admission. We plan Google, Maps, social and your website around your departments, then track every call to the desk that answered it.

What it covers

What digital marketing for a hospital covers, and why it differs from a clinic

This page sits within our digital marketing services and our wider work on digital marketing for healthcare. It is written for hospital owners, medical directors and the marketing or front-office heads who answer to them.

The short answer

A hospital is not one business with one phone number. It is ten or twenty departments, an emergency room that never closes, an insurance desk, and a reception that takes every call first. Marketing works when each of those has its own page, its own search terms and its own route to the right desk.

A single-doctor practice or a small clinic usually needs one strong profile and one booking route. If that is you, our page on digital marketing for clinics fits better, and individual consultants may prefer our marketing for doctors.

  • Many departments, one brand

Cardiology and maternity patients search in different words, at different hours, with different worries.

  • Open at 2 am

Emergency searches happen at night, on a phone, often by a relative. The number has to be right everywhere.

  • Payment decides the hospital

Many families pick the hospital that is cashless for their policy, so the insurer list is a deciding page.

  • Calls land at reception

Without routing, every enquiry joins the same queue and you cannot tell which campaign brought it.

Services we run

The digital marketing services we run for hospitals

We run nine services for hospitals and nursing homes, from SEO and Google Ads to WhatsApp, email and call tracking. Few hospitals need all nine at once, so we pick the mix by department, beds and city.

Each service shows what it does, how we provide it and what you see in the monthly report.

Pick the Services My Hospital Needs
  1. SEO

Department, doctor and procedure pages that answer what patients search, plus Google Business Profiles for the hospital, the emergency unit and eligible departments.

    How we provide it

    • A keyword plan for each department, built from real local searches
    • Business Profile upkeep: categories, hours, photos and Q&A, with department profiles only where Google's guidelines allow
    • Technical fixes and internal links so doctor and department pages can be found

In the report: search visibility, and calls and bookings from search and Maps, by department.

  2. Google Ads

Search campaigns for people already looking for a department, a doctor or a health check near them.

    How we provide it

    • A separate campaign for each department, with its own budget
    • Ads built on search terms and locations, because Google treats health as a sensitive category
    • Call ads on emergency terms only when the line is staffed around the clock

In the report: spend, calls, forms and cost per enquiry for each department's campaign.

  3. Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram)

Campaigns for what patients plan ahead: health camps, antenatal classes, hospital tours and health check packages.

    How we provide it

    • Campaigns about events, packages and access, never conditions or cures
    • Copy and creatives checked against Meta's health ad rules and your adviser's guidance
    • Lead forms or click-to-WhatsApp, with the department named on every lead

In the report: reach, leads and cost per lead for each campaign, and how many were booked.

  4. Social media management

Regular posts on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube that keep your doctors, services and timings in front of the local community.

    How we provide it

    • A monthly calendar of doctor-led awareness posts and camp or talk announcements
    • Paid posts by a named doctor checked for the qualification and disclosure rule
    • Comment and message rules agreed with your front office, with no patient details in public

In the report: posts published, reach, messages received and the enquiries they led to.

  5. Email marketing

Appointment reminders, health check preparation steps and coordinator emails for international patients, sent only to people who agreed to receive them.

    How we provide it

    • Opt-in lists only, with consent recorded under the DPDP Act and an unsubscribe link in every email
    • Service and access information only, with no promotional health claims or treatment promises
    • Templates for OPD reminders, package preparation and international enquiries, approved by your team

In the report: emails sent, opens, clicks, unsubscribes and appointments booked from email.

  6. WhatsApp marketing

A WhatsApp Business API number that confirms appointments and answers timings, location and insurance questions for patients who chose to message you.

    How we provide it

    • Opt-in message templates for confirmations, reminders and preparation steps
    • Click-to-WhatsApp ads and page buttons that tag each chat by department
    • Follow-up flows that hand the chat to a named person at the desk or the international coordinator

In the report: chats per department and how many turned into appointments.

  7. Conversion rate optimisation (CRO)

Changes to department pages, forms and booking steps so more of the patients who arrive go on to call or book.

    How we provide it

    • Landing pages per campaign with the department number, OPD days and insurers near the top
    • Short forms, fast mobile pages and a call or booking step that takes one tap
    • A/B tests on headings, forms and call buttons, one change at a time

In the report: the enquiry rate for each landing page, and the result of every test.

  8. Content

The pages, posts, videos and ad creatives each department needs, written in plain words and checked by your doctors.

    How we provide it

    • Department, procedure and package pages, and doctor profiles from one template
    • Doctor-led explainer videos and post creatives, with no before-and-after images or result claims
    • Medical review by a named doctor at your hospital before anything is published

In the report: pieces published, and the visits and enquiries each page brings.

  9. Reporting and tracking

Tracking that shows which channel and campaign brought each call, form and chat, read against your bookings.

    How we provide it

    • GA4 and conversion tracking for calls, forms and WhatsApp clicks
    • Tracking numbers and IVR options by desk, and a lead source field in your CRM or HIS
    • A monthly report by department, talked through with you on a call

In the report: enquiries, cost per lead and lead quality for each department, with booked appointments from your own data.

Department channel matrix

Which searches, channels and pages matter for each department

Each department brings a different kind of patient. Pick a department to see what its patients type, which channels tend to carry those searches, and the pages that must exist before any money goes into ads.

Cardiology

Cardiology enquiries split in two: planned (a check-up, a second opinion, a procedure a doctor has already advised) and urgent (chest pain tonight). The planned patient compares doctors and insurers. The urgent one needs the emergency number, not a landing page.

What patients type

  • cardiologist near me
  • angiography cost in [city]
  • is [hospital] cashless for my policy
  • second opinion for bypass

Channels that carry it

  • Google Search ads on doctor and procedure terms
  • Department profile on Google Maps
  • Doctor-led explainer videos on YouTube

Pages that must exist

  • Cardiology department page with OPD days
  • A profile for each cardiologist
  • Insurers and TPAs accepted, with the desk number

Watch: heart disease is named in the Schedule of the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, 1954. Keep ads to services, doctors and access, never a cure or a result.

Orthopaedics

Joint replacement and spine patients take weeks to decide. They read about the surgeon, ask about cost and recovery time, and often bring a parent's insurance policy to the first visit. Sports injuries and fractures are quicker, and closer to emergency.

What patients type

  • knee replacement surgeon in [city]
  • knee replacement cost with insurance
  • orthopaedic doctor open Sunday
  • fracture clinic near me

Channels that carry it

  • Search ads on surgeon and procedure terms
  • SEO pages that answer cost and stay questions
  • Meta campaigns for joint-care talks and camps

Pages that must exist

  • Procedure pages with what to expect, written by the team
  • Surgeon profiles with qualifications and OPD slots
  • A cost and insurance page that explains packages honestly

Watch: no before-and-after images and no recovery promises. A patient story needs written consent and a check against your council's current rules.

Maternity and neonatal care

Maternity is chosen months ahead, usually by a couple and their parents together. They want to see the labour room, the NICU level, the doctors on call and the package. Many decide during the first trimester, so content has to be found early.

What patients type

  • maternity hospital near me
  • normal delivery package [city]
  • hospital with NICU near me
  • gynaecologist available 24 hours

Channels that carry it

  • Google Maps and local search
  • Instagram and Facebook for antenatal classes and tours
  • WhatsApp Business for tour bookings

Pages that must exist

  • Maternity page with labour room and NICU details
  • Package page that lists what is and is not included
  • A hospital tour or antenatal class booking page

Watch: Google's healthcare policy bars ads for pre-natal gender determination in India. Keep every ad and page clear of it.

Emergency and trauma

Nobody compares hospitals in an emergency. They search, see a number and call. Emergency marketing is mostly accuracy: the right number, the right hours and a map pin that leads to the casualty entrance, not the main gate.

What patients type

  • 24 hour hospital near me
  • emergency hospital open now
  • ambulance number [area]
  • hospital near me for accident

Channels that carry it

  • Google Maps profile with 24-hour hours
  • Call ads on emergency terms, only if the line is staffed
  • Your website header on every page

Pages that must exist

  • Emergency page with the direct number and entrance directions
  • Ambulance booking details
  • What to bring and what happens on arrival

Watch: never route the emergency number through a menu or a tracking line that can fail. Test it from outside the hospital every month.

Health check packages

Health checks are the one service patients shop for on price and convenience. They compare test lists, home sample collection and report time. A clear package page brings first-time visitors who may later need a department. Standalone labs face the same buyers, which is why marketing for diagnostic labs has its own page.

What patients type

  • full body checkup package price
  • health checkup for parents
  • executive health check [city]
  • fasting required for health check

Channels that carry it

  • Search ads on package terms
  • Meta campaigns around dates such as World Heart Day
  • Corporate and housing society tie-ups

Pages that must exist

  • One page per package with the full test list
  • Preparation steps that match what the lab says
  • Online booking with a slot and a WhatsApp confirmation

Watch: if the page shows a price, it should match your displayed rate list. Check what your state's clinical establishment rules require.

International patients

International patients plan for weeks and ask more questions than any other group: an estimate, the doctor's experience, the visa letter, where the family will stay. They write by email and WhatsApp, often through a medical travel agent. If this is a large part of your plan, our page on marketing for medical tourism goes further.

What patients type

  • heart surgery in India cost
  • India medical visa hospital letter
  • best time to travel for knee surgery India
  • hospital in Delhi for patients from [country]

Channels that carry it

  • SEO pages for country and procedure searches
  • Search ads in the patient's country, where your budget allows
  • WhatsApp and email with a named coordinator

Pages that must exist

  • International patients page with the e-Medical visa steps
  • An estimate request form with report upload
  • Stay, travel and payment information

Watch: the Indian e-Visa site says only two e-Medical Attendant visas are granted against one e-Medical visa (checked October 2026). Quote visa rules from that site, not from memory.

Not sure which department to start with?

We usually start where you have doctor time to spare and a page we can build quickly, then add departments one at a time.

Plan Campaigns for My Departments
Emergency and 24x7 visibility

How a patient finds your emergency number at 2 am

Emergency visibility is not a campaign. It is a set of listings and pages that must show the same number, the same hours and the same entrance, every time, on every platform.

Departments can have their own Maps profile

Google's Business Profile guidelines say publicly facing departments that operate as distinct entities should have their own page, with a name different from the main hospital. A separate entrance, its own category and its own hours are the usual signs. The emergency department often meets that test.

The same guidelines allow a doctor who is public-facing at that location to have an individual profile, but not several profiles for different specialities.

Source: Google Business Profile guidelines (support.google.com/business/answer/3038177), read October 2026

A five-minute test you can run tonight

  1. Search "emergency hospital near me" from a phone outside the hospital
  2. Check the number Google shows against the one your casualty desk answers
  3. Tap directions and see which gate the pin leads to
  4. Open your website on mobile and time how long the emergency number takes to find
  5. Call it at night and note who picks up
  • One emergency listing

A department profile for emergency with 24-hour hours and the casualty entrance as the pin, if it qualifies under Google's rules.

  • One direct number

The same emergency number on Maps, Justdial, your website header and your social profiles. No IVR menu in front of it.

  • Ambulance details

How to call your ambulance, the area it covers and what the caller should say, written in plain words.

  • A tap-to-call header

A visible emergency link on every page of the website, separate from the appointment number.

  • Holiday hours that stay true

Emergency stays 24 hours. OPD hours change on festivals, and those changes need updating before the day.

  • Night-time call cover

Someone who can answer "do you have a cardiologist on call tonight" without transferring the call three times.

Is your emergency number the same everywhere?

We set up and clean the listings, then check them every month as part of the work.

Insurance, TPA and cashless

The cashless questions patients search before they choose a hospital

Insurers answer cashless questions well on their own sites. Hospital websites often do not, so the patient leaves to check elsewhere. A clear insurance page keeps that decision on your site, and lets the TPA desk spend less time on the phone.

Enquiry routing

How an enquiry reaches the right desk, and how you know where it came from

Enquiry routing means each source (an ad, a Maps call, a WhatsApp message, a form) lands on the right page and the right desk, and is counted on the way. Pick a source to follow its route.

1 · Source

  • Google Search ad, cardiology terms
  • Call button on a department profile
  • WhatsApp link on a social post
  • Package ad or search result
  • Country and procedure search

2 · Landing point

  • Cardiology page with doctor profiles
  • Department profile with hours
  • WhatsApp Business quick replies
  • Package page with test list
  • International patients page

3 · Counted by

  • Call tracking number for that campaign
  • Calls report in Business Profile
  • Chat label by department
  • Form with a hidden source field

4 · Desk

  • IVR option to the cardiology desk
  • Front office, then the department
  • Health check desk
  • International patient coordinator

5 · Outcome logged

  • Appointment booked, source noted in the HIS
  • Slot and fasting steps sent
  • Reports sent to the doctor for an estimate

Search ad route. The ad sends people to the cardiology page, not the home page. The page shows a tracking number for that campaign, which rings the cardiology option on your phone menu (IVR). When the desk books the OPD slot, it records "Google Ads, cardiology" in the HIS, so cost per booked appointment can be worked out each month.

Maps call route. Calls from a department profile are counted in Business Profile's own report. Use the department's direct line or IVR option here. A third-party tracking number on Google Maps can confuse your listing details, so we decide this per profile.

WhatsApp route. Quick replies answer timings, location and insurance questions. Front office labels each chat by department, so at month end you can count chats per department and how many turned into appointments.

Health check route. The booking form carries a hidden field with the campaign name. The health check desk confirms the slot and sends preparation steps the lab has approved.

International route. One named coordinator owns every overseas enquiry, collects the reports, gets an estimate from the treating doctor and handles the visa letter. The form records the country and the source page.

Doctor profiles and health check pages

Doctor profile pages and package pages patients can act on

Patients choose a doctor before they choose a hospital, and a package before they choose a lab. These two page types do more booking work than the home page, so we build them first.

Advertising rules

The advertising rules that shape every hospital campaign in India

Medical advertising in India sits under several rules at once: the medical council's conduct rules for doctors, an Act from 1954, the advertising industry's own code and each platform's policy. These are the ones we plan around. Each needs your legal adviser's confirmation before a campaign goes live.

National Medical Commission rules for doctors

The NMC notified new professional conduct regulations on 2 August 2023, then held them in abeyance on 23 August 2023 and adopted the Indian Medical Council regulations of 2002 in their place. These rules apply to doctors, so any ad that features a named doctor must fit them.

Press reports dated 8 October 2026 describe a new NMC notice on advertising that bars superlatives, guaranteed outcomes and before-and-after images. Read the notice itself with your adviser before planning.

Sources: NMC notice of 23 August 2023 (reproduced by TaxGuru); Telangana Today, 8 October 2026

Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, 1954

Section 3 bars taking part in any advertisement for a drug that suggests it can diagnose, cure or treat the diseases in the Act's Schedule. The Schedule includes heart conditions, cancers and obesity. The Act defines "drug" widely, so we keep hospital ads away from treatment promises altogether.

Source: Act text, s.3, s.7 and Schedule (bare act reproduction, read October 2026)

ASCI code and health creators

The Advertising Standards Council of India requires creators who give health advice in paid posts to hold a relevant qualification and to state it at the start of the post or video. If a doctor from your hospital posts paid content, that rule applies.

Source: ASCI influencer guidelines on health content, as reported by Social Samosa, 28 April 2025

Google healthcare and audience policies

Google's healthcare and medicines policy restricts some health services and bars pre-natal gender determination ads in India. Its personalised advertising policy treats health as sensitive, so health advertisers cannot use their own curated audience lists. Campaigns are built on search terms and locations.

Sources: Google Ads policy pages (support.google.com/adspolicy/answer/176031 and /143465), read October 2026

We plan inside the rules, but we are not your legal adviser

Every rule above is summarised from the source named under it. Rules change and states add their own. Before launch, your legal adviser or medical council should confirm what your hospital and your doctors may publish.

Reviews policy we set up with you

  • One written policy for asking patients to review, the same for every department
  • Requests sent after discharge or the OPD visit, to every patient alike
  • Replies that thank or apologise without confirming anyone was a patient
  • A named person at the hospital who replies, with a set time to do it

What we will not do

  • Offer gifts, discounts or tests in return for reviews, which Google's review policy does not allow
  • Ask only happy patients and skip the rest
  • Post reviews ourselves, or ask staff to post them
  • Discuss a patient's treatment in a public reply
How we work

How we work with hospitals and nursing homes

Five steps, the same ones we use for every digital marketing client, with the examples changed to hospital work.

  1. Discovery Call

We learn your hospital, your goals, your patients and how enquiries reach you today. No pitch, just the questions that matter.

Which departments have OPD slots to fill, and who answers the phones.

  2. Marketing Review

We check your website, ads, Google Business Profiles and social profiles for wasted spend and quick wins. Starting fresh? We study your market and competitors instead.

Wrong numbers, missing doctor pages, ads sent to the home page.

  3. Strategy and Proposal

We recommend which channels to use, in what order and with what budget split, and we tell you honestly what will and will not work for your hospital.

Usually one or two departments first, not all of them.

  4. Build and Launch

Website fixes, campaigns, profiles, content and conversion tracking, all set up properly before anything goes live.

Including the IVR options and the source field in your HIS.

  5. Refine and Report

We adjust campaigns and content every week, and report each month on enquiries, cost per lead and lead quality.

Read department by department, with your booking data.

We do not overpromise. We understand first, recommend honestly, then run the channels that fit your business.

Proof

What we can show you, stated honestly

We have not yet published a hospital case study. The two results below come from other trades, and we share them because they show how we run search and paid campaigns across many keywords and cities, which is the same work a multi-department hospital needs.

Paid search

A commercial kitchen equipment manufacturer. Google Search Ads on 100+ keywords across multiple cities, with strong results in every city.

Why it matters here: a hospital with ten departments runs many keyword groups at once, each needing its own budget and reporting.

Paid social and search

A jewellery brand that wanted reach and sales. Paid campaigns on Google and Meta grew website traffic tenfold within one year and brought a steady flow of orders.

Why it matters here: it shows Google and Meta planned together. A hospital's results would depend on its own departments, budget and city.

  • 20+clients served
  • 20+projects completed
  • 25+years of combined team experience, 22+ in paid ads
  • 8+team members, featured by ANI News and The Print
What affects cost

What affects the cost of hospital digital marketing

There is no fixed price for a hospital, because a 30-bed nursing home and a 300-bed multi-speciality hospital need different work. These are the factors that move a quote.

  • Number of departments in scope

Each department adds its own campaigns, pages and profile. Starting with two keeps cost and learning manageable.

  • Branches and cities

Each location needs its own listings, numbers and local pages.

  • Ad budget

Paid to Google and Meta directly, separate from our fee. Higher-value procedures usually carry higher click costs.

  • State of the website

Missing department and doctor pages have to be built before ads can send people to them.

  • Languages and international work

Pages in Hindi or a regional language, or for overseas patients, add writing and checking time.

What a quote from us includes

The departments and channels we recommend, what we would do first, what is included each month and what is not. Our fees are shared in the quote, not on this page.

FAQs

Hospital marketing questions, answered plainly

Can hospitals advertise in India?

Yes, with limits. No single national code covers hospital advertising, so several rules apply together: the medical council's rules for any named doctor, the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act 1954 for treatment claims, the ASCI code and each platform's policy. Ads about services, departments, doctors' qualifications, timings and access are the safer ground. Have your legal adviser confirm the details for your state.

Is Google Ads allowed for hospitals?

Yes. Hospitals run search ads on departments, doctors and procedures. Google restricts some services, such as online pharmacies and speculative treatments, and treats health as a sensitive category, so you cannot target people by health condition or upload your own patient lists as audiences. Campaigns are built on search terms and location instead.

How much does digital marketing for a hospital cost?

It depends on the number of departments, branches and channels, the state of your website and your ad budget, which you pay to Google and Meta directly. A nursing home starting with one department and Google Maps needs far less than a group running ads for ten specialities. We share fees in a quote after the discovery call.

Should each department have its own Google Business Profile?

Only where the department works as a distinct unit. Google's guidelines allow separate profiles for publicly facing departments with their own name, and usually their own entrance, category or hours. Emergency often qualifies. A cardiology OPD inside the main building with the same reception may not. Duplicate or thin profiles risk suspension, so we check each one.

How should we handle negative Google reviews?

Reply calmly and quickly, without confirming the person was a patient or discussing treatment, and invite them to speak to a named contact offline. Then fix what the review points to, if it is fair. Never buy reviews or offer anything in return for them, which Google's policies forbid.

How soon will marketing show in OPD numbers?

Search ads and Maps fixes can bring calls within the first weeks after launch. SEO pages usually take several months to rank. Whether calls turn into OPD visits depends on the doctors' availability, the front desk and insurance. We do not promise patient numbers. We report what each department's enquiries cost and how many were booked.

We are a 30-bed nursing home. Is this for us?

Yes, scaled down. Most nursing homes do well starting with an accurate Maps profile, a clear emergency number, named doctor pages and one or two departments in search ads. You may not need separate department profiles or international pages. The discovery call is where we decide what fits your size.

Can you help us attract international patients?

We can build the international patients page, the estimate form, country-targeted search campaigns and the WhatsApp and email routing to your coordinator. Your hospital handles the medical estimate and visa letter. Quote visa rules from the official e-Visa site, since details such as validity change.
